How do you define yourself? Most people have numerous qualities or attributes, but not everybody identifies themselves in the same way or in the same order. Some people think of themselves first as parents, others define themselves by their jobs, while others think of their nationality first.
This question is more relevant than ever. In 2008, a lot of black women acknowledged voting for Obama instead of Clinton specifically because he was black rather than for any policy or platform reasons; clearly they identified more as black than as woman. These days, trans and gender issues are a common topic. The whole concept of identity is now on a lot of people’s minds.
